Memorial Day Weekend

Well, I had a few requests to be sure to post my weekend happenings when I returned, so I’ve decided to do just that. I haven’t got too much to report because all in all it was fairly uneventful. It’s not like we hunted down the Blair Witch or the Bear-wolf. All in all it was an enjoyable weekend away from reality.

Friday morning we all awoke around 6am and left the house by 7am to get us on the road and start our four hour trip to Three Lakes, WI. We all did really well on the drive-up. Surprisingly Nickolas didn’t fall asleep at all in the car. Mikhail slept almost the entire way there. We arrived at around 1:30pm after stopping at the grocery store and such. Unloaded and got settled in. The weather was absolutely beautiful. First night we didn’t do anything but hang around. It was a bit of a disappointment because we weren’t allowed to have a fire due to having “HIGH” dangers to forest fires. It was all too dry, and with no rain in the forecase we figured this wouldn’t change. The boys (Mike, his dad, and his brother) put in the pier and since they were in the water, Nickolas wanted to join too. The water was freezing, absolutely freezing! It had to be no more than 40-50° waters. So, we were skeptical, but figured it wasn’t fair that the older boys were allowed to ‘swim’ and Nickolas wasn’t. So, we put him in his swimsuit and thought he’d dip his toes in, see how cold it was, and get out. Oh, no … we were wrong, very very wrong. Nickolas jumped right in. He swam and swam, up to his neck in this lake. Mike and everyone else was complaining because it was absolutely freezing, and here Nickolas was swimming like it was 90° outside.

The next day, Mike’s aunt and uncle and their dogs came. they were planning on staying with us in the cottage. His other aunt and uncle, and two cousins were staying at Grandma and Grandpas (they live on the top of the hill across the highway). We had pretty much the entire family just hanging out on Saturday. The boys went “fishing” with their hookless fishing poles and just played all day. Mike and I took a trip into town by ourselves that night. Nothing was opened, so we returned home.

On Sunday, it was just another very uneventful day. We actually had a bit of a fire because we drove around the camp grounds and there was nothing posted that no fires were permitted, so we made a small campfire and hung out for a while. Nickolas went swimming again. Honestly, nothing memorable happened, that’s why I’m just spinning through the days…

On Monday, we were planning on going home. We got everything all packed up and put back in the truck. We were all ready to go when Mike said he wasn’t feeling well. He ended up laying down to take a nap and by the time he woke up it was already 2:30pm. If we would have left it would’ve been 7 or 8pm by the time we got home. He just wasn’t feeling up to driving either. He felt super sick to his stomach and ended up passing back out on the couch for another four hours. His dad and I ended up going and unpacking the car. We were all hanging out when we seen this HUGE bird flying across the lake. Turned it out was an eagle. We’re not sure if its a female/male, young/old. Either way, it was HUGE. You will be able to see photos in the slideshow below… Basically, the close up photos – we were three properties away. He was in a tree above the lake. (I have an amazing camera) I was able to take some really neat photos of it.

Yesterday, Mike was still not feeling all that well, but we were able to get home around 4pm. Mike went and laid down, and I unpacked.

Yea… that was the trip. Nothing exciting. Nothing eventful. I have posted my photos below for viewing.

I spent hours downloading and saving websites and pages for me to work on stuff while being up there and being that I was disconnected from the world. I thought for sure I’d be able to work on some tutorials and other various things that were saved while I was up there. I didn’t even touch my computer. I almost enjoyed not being able to connect to the internet. I liked the ability to disconnect and not have to worry about updating my site, or being connected to everything else. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being connected. Whether its twitter, facebook, my website, etc. I love being on the net. Having that chance to not have the internet was nice too.
